The Nova Scotia Pineapple Award is a Celebration of our Pride in Service and the individuals 
who go above and beyond to enrich a visitor's stay in Nova Scotia.

HONOURED FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO VISITORS

Five individuals who exceeded service expectations on behalf of visitors to Nova Scotia over the past year were honoured at the Annual Tourism Awards of Excellence as the Tourism Industry Association Nova Scotia (TIANS) concluded its 23rd., annual Tourism Conference and Trade Show at the World Trade and Convention Center.

Recipients of the 2000 Pineapple Awards represented such diverse occupations as a front desk clerk, RCMP constable and accommodations operators, included Joe Orr, front desk agent that the King Edward Inn, Halifax; Derek LeGard, innkeeper of the Falcourt Inn, Middleton; Leanne Strathdee, Tall Ships Volunteer Liaison officer for H.M.S. Rose; const. Phil Callan, Shelburne RCMP detachment; and Frank Skinner, owner/operator of Seal Island, Motel and Restrauant, Bras d'Or.

Orr was nominated by two guests who appreciated his making special accommodations, and securing tickets and reservations to local attractions, while another who was involved in a hours riding accident returned to their room to fine the refrigerator already filled with ice bags, juice and everything needed for their comfort.

LeGard was remembered for improvising necessary changes to accommodations to meet the needs of a guest with a progressive medical disease. The guest noted that as host LeGard was always available even during the night by phone if necessary.

The Pineapple awards are presented annually as a celebration of pride in service and the individuals who go above and beyond their call of duty to enrich a visitor's stay in Nova Scotia.
